As one of four teams selected to re-think the role of the parking structure and its urban context in Long Island’s downtowns, Utile and collaborators teamed with the village of Rockville Centre to propose a prototypical future use parking garage and associated urban design strategies that will allow for urban transformation as the needs of the community shift away from individual vehicular transit. The work was featured in detail within the ULI Urban Land Magazine Solutions column in 2014.
This project was one of several design projects completed with Tim Love while working at Utile that addressed the potential of flexible structures to address forthcoming urban change including mobility, climate, land values, and alternative uses. An additional article in Urban Land Magazine features a rigorously-documented related project on universal structures, also designed with Tim Love in 2015.
